Transvaal Scottish Regiment Uniforms:
August 2003: The Transvaal Scottish are busy with a large kit reclamation exercise at the moment, and it has come to our attention that collectors are buying complete uniforms from ex-members of the Regiment.
We would like to point out to all collectors who may be approached that the uniforms in question have never belonged to the Defence Force (UDF, SADF or SANDF) but to Regimental Council, like wise the uniforms were never on permanent issue to the members of the Regiment and it was always expected that they would return the uniform once they had finished their time in the Regiment.
We would like to request collectors who are approached to rather get details of the person in question and forward these to us so that we can go and get the uniform back.
We are, at present also looking (together with assistance from the SAPS) at the relevant acts that deal with these issues and are considering "raids" on premises where we are aware that items of our uniform are or were.
Any collectors who do have equipment belonging to the Regiment who would like to return it to us may contact me at (082) 453-1741 or (011) 449-8439 (07h30 to 16h00). |

March 2002 - During February 2002, a German Imperial Shield, First
World War vintage, was stolen off a brick wall at the SA National Museum of
Military History, Saxonwold, Johannesburg. The shield was captured by the South African forces at Kanus, in
what was then known as German South West Africa in 1915 and was part of the
Museum's collection for many years. The shield was approximately 75cm x 60cm and made from enamelled
metal. The words "Kaiserliche Post" and the Imperial German
eagle crest were located on the shield. It had an oak frame with a
brass caption which read "Kanus GSWA 1915". Should anyone see the shield or could possibly supply us with
any information as to its whereabouts, please contact the museum at the
numbers mentioned below. Your assistance will be much appreciated. Tel: 011 646 5513 Cell: 083 460 6440 Fax: 011 646 5256 e-mail: milmus@icon.co.za Attention: Mr Allan Sinclair. |
