The South African Arms and
Armour Society is dedicated to the study and preservation of arms and armour
of historical and cultural importance.
The Society seeks to promote social awareness of the historical and
cultural significance, development, intrinsic value and use, of arms and
armour through the ages. The Society
is administered by a group of enthusiasts for the benefit of the community,
similar organisations and its own members. The Society meets once a month at the War Museum in
Saxonwold on the last Sunday of each month at 16h30 for 17h00. On odd numbered months, the Society holds
its social events, during which documentaries or feature films of relevant
subject are screened and discussed in detail. On even numbered months, the Society holds its official
meetings and workshops. At the Society’s
workshops, weapons and weapons related technology are examined and discussed
in detail. In addition to our annual programme of scheduled
events, we also hold a number of special workshops on various subjects. Attendance at these workshops, during
which weapons and weapons related technology are examined and discussed in
great detail, is “by invitation only”.
Therefore, individuals and organisations with specific interests on
relevant subjects are encouraged to communicate their interests to us, in
order that they may be included in our special workshops. The Society’s membership fees are R150.00 per annum
and our financial year runs from 1 July each year to 30 June of the following
year. The Society’s event fees are
R10.00 for SAAAS members and R25.00 for visitors and members of other
societies, which include tea/coffee and biscuits at interval. The Society also operates a small bar and
drinks are charged at R5.00 for cool drinks or beer and R10.00 for spirits,
per drink. For further information,
